Determination of Heavy Metal Residues in Tropical Fruits near Industrial Estates in Rayong Province, Thailand: A Risk Assessment Study

This study determined the extent of heavy metal contamination local fruit in Rayong, Thailand, an area where industrial base is adjacent to agricultural areas. Dietary exposure products grown contaminated areas can cause multiple adverse effects human body. In order avoid such undesirable effects, concentrations metals [arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), mercury (Hg), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn)] were investigated popular tropical fruits from three districts namely Wang Chan, Klang Mueang. The levels by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) cold vapor-atomic absorption (CV-AAS). Levels six sampled (durian, jackfruit, pineapple, rambutan, long kong, mangosteen) range 0.0004-6.7095 mg/kg; 16.7% samples exceeded maximum permissible limits Pb. Based on health risk assessments, values estimated daily intake (EDI) less than those tolerable intake. However, for non-carcinogenic risks, high hazard index (HI) found some markets while carcinogenic risks (CRs), CR acceptable levels. Therefore, long-term consumption could impact consumers. These results provided insight into need regular monitoring potentially prevention its potential effects.
